Classic Vintage Colorado - Cedaredge Colorado Information

We've Got You Covered in Delta County-Western CO!

Cedaredge Colorado Information

Cedaredge Colorado was part of a larger area that was inhabited by the Ute Indians prior to 1880. In fact, Delta County was part of Gunnison County established in 1883. Our current hamlet of 2000 folks was founded in 1892 and incorporated in 1907 on a tiny 440 acres. Cedaredge is pure "vintage" Colorado.  Nicknamed "CedarBerry" by the locals or called Cedar Ridge by others, the area hosts wineries, orchards, and ranches. The warm, friendly community has an excellent school system and incredible recreational opportunities.  The rest of the Surface Creek Valley has an approximate population of 6000 and spreads out from the south side of the Grand Mesa down to the Gunnison River.

The Climate is very similiar to the front range area around Denver, Colorado. The mild climate of Cedaredge, due to its ideal location on the Sunny South Slope of the Grand Mesa, will see 15 to 25 inches of snow a year, with an annual rainfall of 5 to 8 inches.  The Delta County area is often referred to as a "banana belt" in Colorado as apples, peaches, cherries, plum and apricot trees grow in the valley though the high country alpine terrain of the Grand Mesa is less than 30 minutes away.  We live below the Grand Mesa close to our source of water and by the way some of the best water in the state.

Deer Creek Golf Course Community

The Town of Cedaredge has an assortment of shops, galleries and restaurants.  The town hosts a post office, library, hardware store, grocery store, day spa, antique stores, Deer Creek Village Golf Course, skate park and medical and dental offices. A town park sits in the center of  town that is central to many community events that happen throughout the year. One of the businesses, the Apple Shed is a renovated apple packing shed that has been turned into a large art gallery and furniture store with a delightful deli restaurant which is a hit with locals and visitors alike.

Cedaredge hosts the Colorado Gold Distillery that produces premium Vodka, Gin, Bourbon and Agave from the majority of local ingredients grown in Colorado.  The water is filtered through from billion year old basalt rock for some of the best water around. The distillery is located on Highway 65 as you enter Cedaredge and is open most days through the year and gives tours of the distilling process. The impressive copper still from Germany is not to be missed, nor should you go home without some of the finest crafted distilled spirits that are sold in the same quaint tasting room and retail store. New this year is their corn whiskey which is getting rave reviews.

Stoney Mesa Winery Cedaredge

The Stoney Mesa Winery is a crowd favorite with its quaint tasting room and array of white and red wines. Enjoy a variety of wines, chardonnay, riesling, gwertztraminer, merlot, cabernet and several wonderful dessert wines.  The Stoney Mesa Winery is open year-round from 11:00am - 5:00 pm for tastings. A small retail store with gourmet goodies is also on the premises.  It is located one mile from Main Street off Happy Hollow Road.  During the spring/summer/fall sit outside on the deck and enjoy the neverending views.

At the entrance to Cedaredge you will find yourself back in time with Pioneer Town.  There is something for the kid in everyone.  Over 20 buildings house items from the Indian arrowhead exhibit to Dinosaur bones & tracks.  Walk down the turn of the 19th century main street and explore the saloon, barber shop, creamy and jail. Visit the old school house, pioneer homesteads and the blacksmith shop.  See how the early settlers  lived and worked in western Colorado.

A special treat is the doll collection and train collections housed in serveral of the old buildings. Pioneer Town is a treat to spend a few hours and is waiting for you to enjoy its treasures. Pioneer Town and the "Welcome Center" is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Pioneer Village is operated by the Surface Creek Historical Society. Adjacent to Pioneer Town is the non-denominational Chapel of the Cross Church for wedddings and events.

Cedaredge grows 7 different apples in this valley including Fuji, Golden & Red Delicious and Johnathan. The most popular is the Honey Crisp.  Other fruit trees grown in the valley are peaches, appricots, cherries, and plums.  The growing season starts the end April and continues to the beginning of October.  Bountiful crops of tomatoes, corn, peppers, onions, cataloupes, zuchinis and squash are found in many gardens throughout Delta County.

Cedaredge's Signature Event is a total celebration of food once called the "Harvest Festival,  AppleFest is usually the first weekend in October. Downtown Main Street and the entire Town Park become a giant festival area with artist and food vendors. Music prevades the air for two days in the park with an array of folk, blues and rock 'n roll. Additionally, a vintage car show over in the Pioneer Town area displays roadsters, horseless carriages and sports cars from past decades. Last year hosted a new event, 5K run and fitness walk.

The Golden  Gala is on Friday night where food, wine, music and dancing meet for a night of fun is considered one of the community highlights of year.

Scenic back nine Deer Creek Village

Deer Creek Village Golf Course.  This 18 hole course is like playing two different courses. The course still hosts four sets of tees for every skill level. The course features a driving range and putting green near the clubhouse.

The front nine snakes through a park-like setting with challenging water traps. The back nine sports very challenging elevated tees and some of the most spectacular scenery on the western slope with the San Juan and West Elk Mountains as part of the view. The course offers a golf pro, golf shop and a full-service restaurant and grill on the premises. Course is open an average of 310 days per year.
